Daily Devotionals

September 7, 2020

Our Peachtree Church email devotionals this week, September 7-10, will all be written by Peachtree’s Hospitality Staff.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you.”

Psalm 32:8-9

My husband, Ryan, and I have volunteered with the Guide Dog Foundation’s puppy raising program for the last four years. We have one pup currently in training, graduated two puppies in the past, and had a hand in many others’ educations. After a year and a half with us, you’re right if you guessed the most difficult part about raising a dog is saying goodbye when it’s time for formal training. The journey comes full circle when we get the invitation to travel to graduation on Long Island, NY, to witness how the pup has grown to change someone’s life. A guide dog is specifically trained to assist someone with visual impairment. The person’s dependence on a guide dog can change life in such a way that the dog and its master become a working team, a partnership, in all aspects. The dog is a steady presence, a stable rock. When you can depend on your companion to guide you safely across a busy street, you know you’ve reached a point of true faith.

The same can be said about guidance from God. How often do you look to God as your guide? How often do you trust in what He shows you? Just as the GPS in your car shows you how to get from Point A to Point B, we can depend and rely on God to show us the way, if we stay near to Him. Your GPS is of no use to you if you leave it at home, right?  While God surely isn’t a machine, He can accompany you on your journey, wherever you need to go. He wants to communicate with you and promises guidance all the way through your life. Will you let God help you cross the road? While it may seem like the biggest step, faith in Him will also be the most rewarding.

For Reflection

How have you been guided by God in the past?

How is He guiding you now?

In what ways can God speak through you to guide others?

Prayer

God, I trust You. I put my faith in You to guide me down the path You planned for me. Thank You that I am not alone and that You have compassion for me when I am lost. Help me hear Your call and stay close to You. I am grateful for Your unfailing company as I reach my destination. Amen.
